Attractive. Durable. Long-lasting. Thanks to these attributes, ceramic tile has been the flooring material of choice in areas of heavy use in many institutions and office buildings. Unfortunately, “durable and long-lasting” doesn’t mean tile and grout surfaces won’t become dirty or damaged, much less last forever.

Patients’ and their families’ perceptions of cleanliness are becoming increasingly important to hospital administration and environmental services staff.  So much so that turning a blind eye to how clean the facility is perceived by a patient could impact the facility’s success.

In 2002 by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services partnered with the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality to develop The Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems survey. The HCAHPS is designed to capture patients’ perceptions of the quality of their care while in a hospital or health care facility.
